Santa Fe architecture is epitomized by the work of John Gaw Meem, whose houses and non-residential structures from the mid 1920’s through to the 1950’s remain touchstones of Santa Fe’s architectural character today. Meem had an ongoing interest in honouring regional traditions, integrating the landscape by siting properties toward the best views, and fashioning significant outdoor spaces such as courtyards and portals. Meem created structures that were then, and are now, indelible influences not only on architecture itself, but also on Santa Fe and its illustrious style. His
signature shines brilliantly minutes from the historic Plaza in the
Territorial classic he designed for sun-dappled poolside gardens
backdropped by the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. A harmonious marriage
of rustic beams, glowing firesides, and French doors to terraces,
the 7,800 square foot compound offers one artistic triumph after
another - from two radiant living rooms and dining room to the office,
two guest houses, poolside entertaining building, and caretaker’s
house. |
